So it starts~ I am compiling a list of all the great grandchildren (the children of my cousins) of Thomas Frederick Barker.

My mother was Isabel Grace Barker McMillin. Youngest child of Thomas Frederick and Agnes Gilmore Barker.

If I am counting correctly I am one of 32 first cousin born between 1933 and 1958. I am looking for the names of my cousin children. (better known as my second cousins or 1st cousins once removed) . Please include birth, marriage and death dates and names of spouses.

I would appreciate help. If you message me on Facebook I will send you my email address. Hopefully by the end of 2016 I will be able to complete this project and get it online so everyone will have access to the genealogy. Thanks for your help.

Changing the focus of this blog so please be have patience while the new evolution unfolds.

Excitement has run amock in the tree house. So much has happened in the tree house. I no longer live in the tree house. I now reside in my own Hobbit home below the tree house. My grandchildren and their parents now live in the tree house.

The grandchildren's cousins are here for a 2 week visit. Five small people all running through life daily between the ages of  seven and two above my head makes life far from mundane.

I was invited today to visit the UK in either 2014 or 2015. Pure bliss is the only way I can describe my mental state right now.

Bye for now!

Velvet Night

Years ago there was a man by the name of Hank Ketcham who had a great talent. Not only could he draw a cartoon strip but he could also think like a 5 year old boy.

One of my favorite cartoon strips of all time go as follows:

Dennis the Menace sit up in his bed in his darkened room wide awake.
He tip toes down the hall to his parents room and they are asleep.
So he tip toes out of their room and down the stairs.
He promptly opens the front door and walks down the sidewalk.
After a short stroll he says, "There is nothing like a night that feels like velvet."

And tonight the night feels like velvet.

Breathe of Fall

Did you feel it?

It was fleeting like the shadow from the corner of your eye. By the time the feeling is recognized it is gone. Leaving only the feeling of loss and the yearning for more.

It is the tinge of autumn that rides the early morning breeze. Welcomed after the blazing of summer heat. It is the promise of tomorrow that leads us forward into more summer's blazing, knowing that soon enough the weather will cool & the days will shorten.

It is a Monday

You know it is Monday when:
1. You sleep for 1 hour and are awake four.
2. If there is something to trip over, you trip over it. (including your own feet)
3. The dogs & cat act like they never learned any manners.
4. All the things you planned on doing are now put off till manana.

Morning!

Yes, it is morning. Ugh!!! Usually I am a morning person but today (well actually last night or maybe the wee hours of the morning) I had to take some meds. I am now paying for it. So much to do today. Right now all I want is to curl up and sleep.

To top everything off it is going to be another day above 90 degrees again today. I have stopped counting but it has been a long, hot summer. I want & need some cool weather.

My Quest

Since I seem to be unable to get anything in my house to become organized, cleaned or otherwise presentable. Also every knit project I start I seem to get it partially done and then decide that the challenge is gone from that project so it holds no interest for me.

I have set myself a quest. My quest is to find all the information that I can find about left handed knitting. Most articles & books seem to stop at "this is how you knit and this is how you purl". No I have been knitting about 20 odd years and don't claim to know much about knitting but everything I have read about left handed knitting answers few of my growing list of question.

So the quest begins. I will let you know how it goes.

Night

Argh! I have accomplished nothing constructive today. It is almost 9PM and my quandary from today will be the the same quandary that I have everyday. I start to feel light headed. I know that I must either stop what I am doing and rest or my world will spin out of control. One way or another I will accomplish nothing. Oh well! At least I have a challenge to face tomorrow. Night to all!

**Sigh**

So Mia went to her new home on Saturday. Yeah! I think it is a great fit.

2 nights without the heating pad & muscle pills, Yeah!

It is still hot out but it feels like fall is just around the corner. All the schools are back in session. Yeah!

I need to shampoo my throw rug, restack the wood on the porch, mow the yard one more time, buckle down & get a Christmas present I started done, move a bed upstairs & reorganize my workroom. Then after all the doctor visit next month start compiling Christmas presents so they can get mailed out before Thanksgiving. Ahhhh!

I love fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Busy or Buzy

Busy or Buzy, which ever way you say it this summer has been crazy. As summer closes it is time to update.

Mia will hopefully go to her new home this week. 8 homes in 4 years has been her life. I am praying that the 8th will be her forever home. Her new mom is the perfect person. She loves these giants and is making preparations to welcome Mia to her new home.

My son pounded posts and helped me put panels up for the new dog yard. Thanks Josh. While his wonderful and sweet wife bought us all lunch. So the Dynamic Duo have a new place to run and play that is outside.

My back needs winter to come so that I stoop working it so hard. It has been protesting since Saturday

Blog Change

I am changing the scope & perspective of this blog. From this day forth it is becoming someone else's story. I believe that every life force in this universe we call home has a purpose. Now this may a strange statement that seems to be at odds with the fact that I am a born-again Christian. I believe that Jesus Christ is God & my Lord and Savior. It is only through Him that I may enter heaven.

Before some of you start screaming that I am a heretic, (audio, vide, percipio), listen, see & learn.

We each have an essence. Everything living thing has an essence. That essence, the real, permanent, individual & ultimate nature of a thing (from Webster's Dictionary). This is how we tell a tree from grass, a fish from a snake, etc.

We as people each have our own essence. Since we are the ultimate life force created by God, we have certain responsibilities. We are responsible for our own choices. A tree never has choices, as an example.

Since we have choices we have responsibilities for the things we choose to do. Doing nothing in a situation is a choice. We are responsible for our actions and how they impact the rest of the living forces around us.

So enough of my philosophy. This blog is about I choose to impact other life forces. These life forces are named Chewbacca, Loki, Daffy & Mia. This will chronicle their lives.

Tree Houses

I like living in my Tree House. Well it is not actually a tree house. you see it sits on the edge of a little ridge and the hill slope steeply down so I am at tree top level. I love being able to see off in the distance.

I also have the advantage of being able to see the wildlife at all levels. Ground level has opossums, worms, lizards, turtles, salamanders, foxes, deer, roadrunners, snakes & rabbits.

Mid level of low branches and tall shrubs have small birds, praying mantis, lady bugs & butterflies.

Tree tops are larger song birds, squirrels, hawks, crows.

There is always something to watch from the tree house.

Long Night

It is going to be a long night. Actually the next 3 days are going to long since we are in the middle of the bullseye for severe storms. Basement is almost step up. Think I will just leave it set up over the winter so I don't have to go through all this work next year. Well off to watch some more radar. Everyone stay safe.

Master Classes

Well, I decided to jump off the pier into the deep water this last weekend. I just decided to start my Master Knitting Certification classes. I also decided to start at the very basics. Hopefully I can complete all of these courses before my grandchildren graduate from college.

So back to knitting. Have a wonderful evening.

P.S. These wonderful hats patterns were designed by Jared Flood. He has the most beautiful designs. You can find him on Ravelry or at Brooklyn Tweed

Rain Clouds!!!! Southern Missouri is floating down stream already. I know one thing for sure - 12 inches of rain is a huge amount of water.

Time Phlys

Time passes at warp speed these day. Spring weather has developed it's own schizophrenic personality.

First we have snow, then heat close to 90, then cold below freezing, then back into the 70's, and now...... Does someone have an Ark we can borrow? In the last week we have had 10 inches of rain. Spring is usually 2 to 4 inches. Clouds, rain, hail, tornadoes, and wind. pond and creeks are flowing over.

But this is Missouri so give us 5 minutes and the weather will change.

Spring

Seven days ago the temperature was 80 degrees. Alas today it is below freezing but there is still beauty.

Peace

There is a time in the night when all is at peace. The world is silent. Nothing stirs, there is no sound. It is a time of rest.

Lord, bid war's trumpet cease;
Fold the whole earth in peace.

Spring

Spring has sprung here. Today I mowed but only about an acre, started tilling the garden and discovered a new fun play toy. The best part is it is free!

I love to read but I also love to knit. I have always had problem knitting while reading. Balancing book, knitting directions, yarn and needle was just beyond my capacity. So I discovered Kindle for my PC and since I have a 13" laptop I can now read books and knit at the same time.

The best part is that most of the great classics are free and so is the Kindle app.

I love reading the classics. This is a very good spring indeed.

Water

Water in it's mild forms is gentle, comforting & beautiful. When it becomes vicious it is horrific. Please remember the people of Japan. Most if the deaths are not from the earthquake it was the tsunami. They had 20 to 30 minutes from the time of the hardest earthquake to the tsunami to get to the highest point nearby.

Prayers for the people of Japan.

Stop the World.

Today started out with me being, literally, dizzy. Since my Meniere's disease has decided to flare I have been riding a tilt-a-wheel almost every day. Not getting much done. This to shall pass.

Spring is almost here. We change time next weekend. Now if we can get rid of this cold raw weather. I am ready for the red bud and dogwood to bloom. The grass to green and the trees to leaf out.

I love spring.

Ahh Saturday

Saturday has turned into food day.

Made yogurt it won't be ready until tonight or tomorrow. Vegetables ready to go into the oven for roasting. Love roasted veggies. They can be eaten as they are or in a stew or blended down into a mole for burritos.

Next is to do the refried beans and rice. Now off to make bread and then maybe some orange & yogurt "ice cream".

Good eats the rest of the weeks!

I know

I know that I didn't blog yesterday. Yesterday's schedule was up early and out the door. Not home until dinner time. I had a great time all day. Just no time to blog. So I will forgive myself and go on.

Today made Lemon Drops cookies and had my hair cut. I have the absolute best young lady who cuts my hair. She is my youngest daughters bestest friend, great mom., wife & a so kind.

So tonight I need to knit. Which I may do. Then again I may not, haven't decided yet.

It is about time!

I am making some changes in this blog and my life.
1) I am going to blog every day except when I have no internet connection.
2) I am going to get rid of some more of the clutter in my life.
3) I am going to stop making so many plan and go with the flow more.
4) I am going to stop feeling guilty about doing nothing.
5) I will stop now because I am getting bored.

Tomorrow on to doctors and a lovely day with one of my girls.
Now back to Tasty Kitchen.I love a good recipe and they have many.

Nothing

Today is one of those nothing days. I don't want to knit. I don't want housework. I actually want to so nothing. But I must do something. I have a deadline to meet. I dislike deadlines actually love the sound as deadlines go quizzing by ( line borrowed from Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy). I want to go sledding. I want to walk in the snow while it is snowing. I want to eat. I want to cook and I want to eat.

So because of circumstances beyond my control. I must do things I don't wish to do and by pass things I would love to do.

The End

Quandaries

I love the word quandaries. It just sound like its self. I also like quagmires. Maybe it is a Q thing. I love the word I do not like the reality. Today I have a quandary. Exercise or no exercise, for most people this would be a no brainier. For me it means exercise brings weight control & feeling better Exercise is good for my body and emotional well being but it brings on my meniere's attacks. So that is my quandary to exercise or not to exercise that is the question. (My apologize to Mr. Shakespeare)

Oh What To Do

I have no lack of house work that needs to be accomplished. Actually my work room should be at the top of the list. Every time I look at my work table & desk I cringe and then close the door. Since there are no deadlines looming it shall wait for another day. Back to my knitting!

Monday, January 10, 2011

Much ado about nothing

It is cold, the sky is grey. Will we get snow or won't we? Here in the hills one never knows. We shall wait and see.

Pazole

I want Pazole, foamy, spicy, tongue searing Pazole.
But I am settling for Gumbo. I want something hot, spicy, & soupy. Gumbo with lots of rice, beans & tomatoes will do the trick. If I had more ambition I would make some water crackers with chili powder. But when my cold moved in my ambition moved out. So Gumbo here I come.

Yuk!

I hate having a cold. I always know when I am going to be sick. I crave junk food and then WHAM! I come down with a cold. I just hate having a cold.

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

It is going to be 60 degrees tomorrow.

I have spent most of the day getting to know my new computer. Okay, I lied. I have spent most of my day playing on my new computer. It has been one of those days. I have not been terrible productive but I have enjoyed myself. I did learn a new knitting technique and took down the Christmas tree. So have I had a productive day? You better believe I have. Now back to my newest hunt for easy knitting math. Have a good evening!

He is not helping. He is just a ham.

Blogging is something I am making myself do. It is my new discipline. To be truthful I am failing miserably. I am handling blogging just like I treat house work. Ignore it and maybe the little gnomes and elves will take pity on me.

How is that working for me? I am still waiting for them to show up. So I am going to find a nice picture and ignore be disciplined for another day. 8^)))))

No way Jose`

I am the worlds worst blogger. Am I going to promise to be better. No Way. So here we go.

It is December & baby, it is cold outside. It was about 4 here last night and I think now that the sun has come up it is probably about 15. Every time the weather gets this cold I want one thing for breakfast - pigs in a blanket -. Since there are no pork products in the house at this moments I will settle for just pancakes and an egg.

After breakfast I may feel the impulse to clean house. If I sit and knit long enough I am sure the urge will pass. So have a great day! I have breakfast to eat & knitting to do. Eating & knitting that should fill up my day 8^)

Summer Days

Have you ever just given in to that sudden urge to do nothing? Try as I might nothing is winning. Now it is not that I do not have things to do. The floors need to swept and mopped, the windows need to washed as does the siding, the dishes need done, the laundry needs to folded and put away, dogs need to be walked and so it goes. Today I want none of being responsible & mature. Today I want to write like e.e.cummings, color as I did in first grade, marvel at nothing and stand in awe of everything. Isn't that summer days. Responsible may win out in the end but right now summer is on my mind.

I Really Shouldn't

This is going to be a very short post. Why? Because it is already late and I really need to get some sleep before my MD gets worst. That's why, but here I sit. No I am not watching television, nor am I reading an engrossing book. Then why don't I go to bed, you may ask. Well I have an addiction. It sometimes becomes my master until I can no longer hold my head up and have to admit my shame. I am addicted to recipes. You can laugh now but give me a computer and late night and I can find some of the most delicious recipes that ever appeared in cyberspace. Lemon tart, chicken dim sum, pepper poppers with bacon. I could go on but I really must snatch back what little self control I have remaining and go to bed. So off to the Land of Nod I go and bid a reluctant adieu to all those wonderfully tempting recipes that I know await me.

Sublime to Ridiculous

My life has gone along a fairly normal course up until now. I have been taken over by a file on my computer. Sure I know what you are thinking that happens to every one on occasion.Usually you go into that file and clean out all out dated information and the world is back in balance once more. Today I realized that I have a burgeoning file where there is no hope. I have come up against the proverbial 'rock and a hard spot'. I want to taste every recipe in that file. I don't want to delete any of the tasty sounding culinary delights. So what is the problem you say. Cook your way through the list and once again my life will be in balance. I can't! If I did 1) I would have more food that I, myself could eat in a year 2) I just want a taste, 3) I am in a lifestyle of very low sodium and no refined sugar and these recipes do not fit those criteria. A problem of gigantic proportions. Oh! What should I do, to eat or not to eat that is the question. After pondering for what seem like many hours, in actuality is was several nano seconds I have decided to do----- nothing. Of course I will add another tasty sounding recipe soon, oh well. Maybe I will just will it to my grandchildren and let it become the burden of another generation. 8^)

Have I mentioned?

Have I mentioned how much I dislike being sick? One of the things that I miss when I am sick are the sunrises. I love to watch the sun slowly creep it's way up in the eastern sky. I sit in the porch swing waiting, confident in the fact that tomorrow it will rise again with new variations of tones and hues. It is a great way to start the day.

Cloudy Days

Today is one of those days where it is hard to get up in the morning. I heard the wind raking through the wind chimes on the porch. Hard wind means generally one thing, thunderstorms are on there way. Let the Dynamic Duo out before the rains hit. The rains came hard and all at once followed very closely by the roll of thunder. This will go on until noon-ish it is a great excuse to knit and that is what I will do, while listening to the rain and waiting for the next flash of light. I love rainy days in the Ozarks.

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Pathetic

I have been pathetic about blogging. Trying to turn over new leaf. We will see how it goes. Today I would like to introduce the "Dynamic Duo". They came here when they were only 8 weeks old. Someone deserted them (hopefully it will never happen again to me) and I never found homes for them. So here I go. I will try and at least post once a day. (Promises, promises)

Forever Awake

Have you ever felt like you can just keep going even though you know it is almost time for bed. Your body has started to wind down but the mind is just not ready to relax. If you have then you know of what I speak, if not I'm sorry. It is a wonderful feeling to think you can just go on and on. Finishing one project after another never looking at the clock or worrying about time. Just flying through work. Deadlines falling by the wayside with abandonment.

I have been there just not right now. It is only 9:15PM and I want to go crawl in bed and sleep for 36 hours. Deadlines loom like ogres out of Grimm's fairy tales. The troll is standing on the bridge demanding the work be done and all I can think of is a warm, cozy bed.

The troll is going to have to wait, as are the ogres. For me it is off to the "Land of Nod" to ride in that wooden shoe. To all a good night.

Christmas Time

I love Christmas. I love the lights, the decorations, and the gifts. Most of all I just love the feel of Christmas. It is a celebration of the birth of Christ. This is the most important and oft forgotten reason for the season. Life just has a cozier and warmer feel when Christmas rolls around. So "Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight".

Dog Days

The "dog days' of summer are finally here. After having 1 years worth of rain in six months it is nice to have some dry weather and some heat. Now we have had our fill of both and they can leave.

I have spent May, June and July mostly doing my favorite things. Having some of my children around, having time with my grandson, watching the deer and other wildlife "sneak" into the yard for their favorite snacks. I have also done some of those things that I did not like mostly dealing with the state and federal government but that is over, so now I am back doing what I enjoy.

I have learned many things since January 1 of 08 and expect to learn many more before January 1st of 09. I already knew that there is a price for raising independent free thinking children and I would gladly pay that price again because I love to hear their tales of life and see them happy doing what they do.

So here is to the second half of 2008. May it be as fulfilling as the past.

The Good The Bad & The Ugly

I have to admit I love weather. Not just the sun is shining, the skies are blue weather but weather in general. I am particularly drawn to thunderstorms. I love a good thunderstorm. The lightning, wind and rain can fascinate me for hours. I am riveted to the TV following the brightly colored screens that are ever evolving. I can sit on the porch counting the distant of the last lightning strike and not mind at all that I am getting soaked. I know that thunderstorms frighten people and cause untold monetary damages. I know from first hand experience that thunderstorms are not all fun and games. I have Meniere's disease. There is something in a good thunderstorm that causes me to have some pretty severe vertigo attacks. Some expert just scoff at me and tell me that there is no correlation, "it is all in my head" (pun) and others just say that it is the sudden drops and rises in barometric pressure. I don't care I know that when a thunderstorm is approaching I can tell. So for now I will just take some extra meds, to try to keep my vertigo in control, and grab my camera and settle in for another spectacular lightning show.

Me Bad

Well, as a blogger I am a total failure. The winter has come and gone with out one single blog from me. Not that it is important that I blog for as far as I know I am the only one who reads it. I like it that way because I have only my self to please. Spring is here in all it's glory and warmth and I love it.

Sunday, October 21, 2007

Fall has come and we welcome the newest member to the family. He is the most adorable. After along hiatus I must return to work a week from Monday. I have very mixed feelings about this. On one hand I look forward to the money and on the other I want to spend more of energy toward my own business and my family. Ah! Life is full of dilemmas. I swing from one side to the other. I do know one thing. Life will continue no matter which choice I make and I can always change my mind. For the next week I am going to just enjpy my life as it is. I do love fall.

Summer is gone

Summer is gone and fall is here. Oh, yes glorious fall. The air feels crisp and the sun still has warmth. I finally have a diagnoses to my condition. I have Migraine Equivalent Menieres. The new meds are working and unfortunately my 3 1/2 month sabbatical is over at the end of October I must return to work. Hopefully not for long.

Time Flies

Time flies after you live it. April, May and June were all taken up by work and overtime. My work is a job that I neither enjoy nor look foward to participating in. I like the people whom I work with but the actual work is just there to pay the bills. You see I have an addiction. I love my house and I love food. So to keep food in my "ample" belly and this lovely roof over my head I work.

I would much rather be doing other things. There is a slavery in knowing that while I am working I must cater to the whims of my malady of Meniere's so that I can go to work every day. Conversely there is a wonderful freedom in know that for at least the next two weeks if I have a wonderful period of time where if a spell of dizziness hit I can just wait for it to pass and then go on. An episode will not adversely affect my employer because I am on vacation. What glorious freedom that is.

Monday, April 09, 2007

Okay, I have decided to try a new enterprise to see if I can make some more money. Ultimate goals, pay off my house and loan and invest enough money so that when (if) my meniere's progresses to a point I can't work I will be able to be comfortable in my retirement. Initial investment is low now to spend the time to build the business.

I do love spring, 30 today and 70 tomorrow. Green is everywhere.

Saturday, April 07, 2007

Spring is here. The dogwoods, redbuds and tulips are in bloom. The grass needs to be mowed and green is now a primary color. It is a beautiful site. Different medications make the spinning world spin a little less often. We will see what tomorrow brings. Tried a new new couscous recipe that has potential but needs some work. Will publish when I think it is ready.

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

Run For Your Lives

Run for your life. It is an epidemic. What is all the fuss about? Meniere's disease that's what. Is it an epidemic, no it is just a vestibular problem with possibly 10 different sources ( and maybe more) and I have it. Life is what you make it and it doesn't end with dizzy spells or nausea. You go on. My Meniere's right now is under some control as long as I am very, very good about diet and medication. So welcome to 2007 and enjoy the good times every day because you never know when your world will start to spin out of control.

Exciting Times

Have you ever had one of those days that isn't bad but it is not great. That was today. It wasn't bad but it wasn't a terrific day either. It was just here. Weather was drizzly and overcast. Just blah, until tonight. The excitement tonight made up for a blah day.

The Great Horned Owls are still here. Now that is probably not very exciting to some but I love to listen to those two big goofy looking birds. They are a mated pair and they never really leave the area but they have their silent periods when they don't do a lot of verbalizing. But the excitement is that come Novembe/December they start talking "love" to each other again. There is nothing better than dozing off to sleep listening to those two great birds calling to each other in the night. Yeah today was a great day.

Another Day

Well, went to the Doctor again and now have some new med. Hopefully these will work a little better. Also got not only new meds but a little new hope. At least I found someone who is willing to try and work with my condition and not say "go home and learn to live with it". I guess I am too much of a control freak. I have now someone to work with that understands that I am willing to trying to seek if not a cure at least a way of being able to function and contribute to this world. There is too much of life to experience not to try what is available to make life better. Will post more later today on 300 Million. Enjoy the day!

Change

Okay, I don't know if anyone besides myself reads this and I am not sure I want to know. Knowledge does not always set you free. I think I would be inclined to "pull my punches" if I knew people were reading this. I have always felt that people should live who they are and not be manipulated by others. Of course I have always felt that people were basically good, well meaning creatures, I may be wrong but that is my reality and I am sticking with it.

The reason for this rambling is that I am about to be painfully honest (at least it is painful for me). For over a year I have been told that I have Meniere's disease symtoms. Now that is not a death sentence by any means and to most people it is just an inconvience. I thought that was to be my plight. Apparently for the last 10 years my symptoms have been increasing but very slowly and I could always adjust and adapt. I figured it was just life. Last year the symptoms got a name. This year things have been progressing rapidly. At the present rate within the next year I possibly be unable to work, drive or do the "normal" things in life. When the world spins it is difficult to focus on anything.

Well, enough ramblings. If someone else is reading this just enjoy the pictures on the blog and kinda of skip over this. I will probably write more later. With Meniere's medical answers are at best ambiguious and generally non existent. (At least that is my experience) This is a good place to just vent.

It Won't Be Long

It won't be long, just four more days and the temperature will drop to freezing. The last time it was that cold was in March. It won't be a hard freeze but enough so that the plants have to come inside. Winter is almost here.

Fall

I am listening to the rain and thunder, thankful that finally the weather has broken and the ponds will fill. The acorns have started to fall from the oaks. The deer will start to be more active in the area as the weather cool. It will be good to see how this years' fawns are looking.

Fall Hungers

Fall has finally showed up and so has my annual fall cooking frenzy. As I write ribs & potatoes are slow cooking in the oven. Tomorrow will bring apple bread and possible a pork roast. Since work gets in the way Monday through Friday it is the about same menu every day. Come the weekends stand back and smell the fun.
